Default New struts question

Hi
Pretty new to Porsche so forgive the novice questions.

I have a NTM 1987 944 turbo that I plan on using for autocross/track use.

Suspension is in rough shape and I want to replace the struts and the shocks in the rear. Right now I have the basic stock setup, but per rules I can use any option that was available on the car at the time.

So can someone tell me what I should be looking for so I can have the best setup allowed? I imagine I will have to search used, but if available new I could go that route.

Thanks

I recently upgraded my 87 turbo with new Konis front and rear. Changing out the rears is pretty straightforward, but the front struts are a sealed design. You have to cut open the strut and remove the internals to put in the Koni insert. Paragon is an excellent source for the Konis and the DIY instructions. While I was at it, I added their front coilover conversion with 250# Hypercoil springs and rear 28mm torsion bars. Even with the stock sway bars, the car is totally transformed. My car is street/track setup, so a bit of compromise on both sides.

Thanks for the reply. Would it make sense to source used struts off a car with the upgraded struts? What is the generally accepted strut life as far as milage goes. If I do m30 (?) Struts do I have to upgrade the spindles?

Rebuilding your struts with the Koni inserts is probably the best thing to consider. The chance of finding some original struts that are still good is probably not great. M030 stuff will bolt on your car without modification but you need the springs and perches as those are particular to the M030 cars.

** Which aftermrket front (and rear if available) strut bar is best for the 944 Turbo (87 model here)? No engine bay modifications are present.
