Best 1975 or earlier car for 951 Motor?

I'm mulling my next project, with lots of possibilities in play. One idea is putting a high-output 951 engine in a smog-free California car, so that I can do whatever I want with the motor. That means it needs to be something from model year 1975 or older (or potentially some kit cars). So...what would be the best car from 1975 or older to host a 500hp+ 951 motor?

Wasnt the first 924:s - 75 model year? Would be a real sleek sleeper car and pretty easy swap.

A 914 with a monster 951 engine would be awesome...like the Doom car back in the day.

924 was 1976..

Tom...a Vega would be a neat car for a proper Alusil engine :p

or something 1960s era that came with a four...thinking Chevy II (pre-Nova) or Pontiac Tempest (that even had sort of a torque tube arrangement)

Saab sonnet.

I always liked the old style (1960’s) mini someone built with a 951 engine.

Put it in an old Corvette:evilgrin:
That would be very funny to me.

My step mom had a root beer color 70 Volvo 1800E automatic, we called it the flying fish.

I was going to say Volvo 142. Having spent too much time in the past on the Turbobrick forum, I saw some amazing 142s. But can't argue with P1800!

Or this Opel kadett C. Weigh in at 795kg in stock trim with rear wheel drive. Opel did alot of racing with these cars.
My late father sold 11200 and some Opels during his career and my best car memories are of the Kadett C he and a friend of his used to do hillclimb races with in the South of Europe. Such a fun car to drive!
Would kill most cars with a strong 951 engine. Racing parts for these cars are plentiful aswell.

2nd for the Chevy Vega! I always fancied a GT Wagon with the full 951 engine/torque tube/transaxle/rear suspension set up.
Don't know how the dimensions work out... problem is finding a nice Vega to start with. Most have either been turned into V8 drag cars, or have rusted away to nothing.
Chevy Monza would work, but then you'd just wind up with a poorly made version of a 944.
Mercury Capri?
I feel your pain with the CA smog bullsh*t. I have a fully built LS7 that needs a home, but anything I want to put it in will be illegal.

A Morris Minor would be stunning.
