Rear Ended
Turning left at light, a fire truck with siren on was approaching from the left. I stopped so as not to block the lane and got rear ended. Hating it - 29 years without a bump. Battery died on my e60 so the 951 was called up. The bumper did what it was supposed to do - I am wondering about the dented area to lower left of the hatch key hole.

That sucks, sorry to see.
I have little experience with bodywork so will let others chime in there.
Might be a good time to go with a Euro bumper if you can find a used one. If not I have an Alpine White rear bumper off my '89 turbo that's in very good shape if you're interested.
Best of luck with the damage.

So I think the bumper could totally be replaced as mj951 noted - and somehow it didnt break lights or hit anywhere else but the bumper and panel that the key hole is on. Is this indeed a panel and possibly replaceable?

The bumper is up at my moms place a couple hundred miles away but i'll be up there Labor Day weekend...possibly sooner if you're in a rush.
I can bring it back and post a pic, just let me know your timeline and interest as you figure things out.

Absolutely and I really appreciate that! This happened this afternoon so sorting it out this weekend. I did go look again and it did dent in the panel that has the PORSCHE decal under the license plate - just harder to see.

The bumper, 2 x bumper shocks + the soft end filler pieces and you are 50% there.
Is this something you think you can fix yourself if you were coached through it..?

Talk to a PDR guy and see YouTube videos on PDR about the dent. Pretty sure it's fixable with PDR, as I fixed a worse dent myself that way. And, white is a forgiving color to respray, in this case with an airbrush, if needed. The bumper itself appears reusable, and its bent endcaps are plastic and can be straightened for respray, by application of mild heat in your oven or with a heat gun.
If needed, you can get decent urethane single or two stage Alpine White paint from Walmart, not expensive.

Also useful would be Harbor Freight suction cup dent pullers @$2-4 each, maybe some Krylon white paint/primer in rattle can @ $5ish from Walmart. Otherwise, if plain Jane white ain't quite right, Alpine White factory paint codes can be had in a custom rattle can sent to you for $30ish as I recall. Google for it. The paint would be for the mangled bumper side pieces, which may delaminate and peel the old paint, so to be resprayed. New bumper shocks can't be too expensive at AutohauseAZ or RockAuto, so if you're handy and try PDR yourself, this whole project could be pretty cheap to fix. I'm guessing the adjuster quotes $1,500-2,000 on this, but use the insurance on other stuff.
If you get the custom Alpine White rattle can paint, you should have enough in one can for this project, plus mirrors and some front end respray for rock chips, etc., espeially after basically filling such rock chips with the Krylon rattle can primer, then top off the divots with the custom stuff, applied with a toothpick tip, cured, then polished.
