https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...bc66046b17.jpgOkay so today I opened up the intake (pre throttle body) "blow off valve" to inspect. It was really good so loc-tited the fasteners & put it back together. Then I removed the primitive "log" exhaust manifold that I made previously & found a spot to mount the external waste gate. Decided to mount it low and behind.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...b0aacd6363.jpg But for giggles I wanted to see if it all fit reverse. It does. And it was then I remembered I actually built it for a "rear feed" like the 951 routes the exhaust... and then out of frustration I mounted the exhaust manifold forward because clearance were too tight.

Alright. Got inspired to try once again to feed the exhaust from the back like 951 but no way. So f*ck it, I'm going through with this design. Pulled everything. Gonna finish up all welds, gonna install gaskets & torque it all down.

Things are Tight! You can see where I had to made intake manifold spacers one is on the head @ #4 cyl). Also had to grind off the top of the alt and part of the balance shaft cover! Sorry it's so dusty (from the body work -pre paint).

Generic advice that gets repeated. Cheaper? Depends on skill level, yours obviously exceeds the casual car guy.

I don't regret buying my 951 but I do regret buying it instead of boosting my '83. There are other factors besides cost, your project is cool and it will be one of kind.

Thank you for your kind words brother. Support comes in all forms & it really helps when the going gets difficult.

Tonight: welded O2 bung & 3" elbow on to down pipe.
completed a few welds on these pipes, painted with heat paint.
Wrapped one to help reduce negative side effects.

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...98ea6bff32.jpgAlright its been a ****ty week for setbacks on Urban Rally Wilson. What should have taken 2 evenings is extending into all week... II really haven't enjoyed being in the garage this week & I'm drinking too much and my back hurts as a result. Hopefully my luck changes this weekend.

Why aren't you using the stock coolant sensor? It's programmable to your ECU.

I am brother, but the exhaust manifold cross over pipe is too close I'm worried about heat damage. Lemme post pics later once I sort out my stupid downpipe situation :)

Okay, so I accepted that I had to re-consider how things are being assembled. This allowed me to improve my oil feed & drain angle. No longer thinking I can install the intake mani & turbo with down pipe as an assembly. That's fine. Ended cutting off the 3" downpipe... it's just too big, so going with 2.5" until the back of the starter. Slow progress but my attitude is better than last week :). Also I was wrong about the oem turbo rotation being opposite to what I bought for what that is worth.

I've done both. I took 2 years supercharging my NA 944 and blew it up. Then I bought an 86 turbo.

In hindsight, I should have kept on developing the SC NA car. The turbo has kicked my ass back and forth and up and down. It's been 3 years and its still nowhere near where I want it to be in terms of performance and reliability. My SC 944 was a far cooler/better/personalized car.

Keep your eyes on the prize, you'll get there.

Mucho Gracias Amigo for speaking on my thread, I appreciate it. You come with a lot of authority on the subject, because of the lot of us, you are one of the very FEW who successful boosted your n/a. And it was a NICE well constructed build! It was a shame to read of the car's demise.

-----------------------------

Regarding the downpipe I reluctantly determined cutting off the 3" and growing the 2.5" pipe longer into what appears to be a very similar shape as the oem turbo down pipe. The plan from here is to turn into 3" and then what? Single 3" or double 3"? Side dump or out the back? I dunno yet, but this car isn't the easiest the make exhaust for imo.

I'm sorry to hear it about the 951... would be very interested in hearing more of your experience and thoughts on this new car.

nice progress, but one thing i'll say is that when it comes to changing belts, water pump, rad hoses or anything up front, you'll be cursing!

Wouldn't it have been just as easy to do it 944 turbo style with the headers?
