I think I may have had a different DME for the test in 2010. And I guess I adjusted the idle after that too. I wish I would have made notes on the setup for the 2010 test...
Apparently no NO test here. What you see is what was checked.

California has three levels of smog testing, depending where you live. In the congested areas we have "Enhanced" testing with the rolling dyno and NOx testing. In "Basic" areas like were mtnman82 must live, they have a two speed idle test (no dyno, no NOx). And for those lucky few in very remote areas, they only require a smog test (two-speed idle, no dyno, no NOx) when the car changes ownership.

For those of you wondering why we whine so much, it would likely be very difficult for mtnman82's car to in our "Enhanced" area with that 10 y/o Fabspeed cat. The NOx test on the dyno and the limits that apply make it a whole different deal.

PEvans - yep, I'm lucky to be where I am. By the same token, I wish they had extended the 'remote' area just a few miles to the South as then I'd be golden.
I searched for the replacement CAT pipe but had a difficult time locating one so tempted fate and tried the old CAT. I'm thinking I want to get a new CAT pipe just in case before the become extinct. But then again I've also read they will deteriorate just sitting on the shelf?

Hmm, those hydrocarbons (PEvans) are suspicious as they seem to have been climbing over the years. My 951 did the same (I gave it to my brother to hold on to for about 12 years) and my brother, too, had problems at the end passing emissions in California. I towed it home (Idaho) and all I did was clean the K&N air filter. Just saying, and not in anyway inferring anything. Just needed to clean the air filter!!

I hear HC also depends on the amount of idling before the test and environment conditions. Just so many variables in these tests; it’s nuts.
When the test came to Ontario, the Toronto Star did a story... had a reporter take a recent model Chevy Cavalier to 5 smog tests all on the same day. It passed some and failed others.
Here’s a good story on the inconsistency of the testing including increased failure rates in the summer due to the heat https://www.thespec.com/news-story/2...try-try-again/
