Default 944 Turbo Big Red's - Rotor Issue

Does anyone recognize these rotors? They are installed on a '86 944 Turbo race car that has had a big red upgrade done. The folks that built the car had given the prior owner a new pair of OEM 993TT rotors to use as spares/replacements, but there is a 10mm difference in the "offset" compared to these slotted rotors currently on the car and that is causing a fitment issue. No one seems to know what rotors I really need to use as replacements. Any thoughts??? I see no markings on these slotted rotors that would indicate who made them. Tried to search but couldn't find anything. Hard to imagine I'm the only one that has come across this problem with how common the Big Red upgrade is. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Those are very unique brake hats that you have on your rotors. If you are running Big Reds on your '86 951, are you running with '87-88 hubs? If so, I would use the stock two-part 993 TT rotors and replace the stock brake hats with the Lindsey Racing 951 adapter brake hats. The LR brake hats will let you use the 993 TT rotors on a '87-88 951 with the correct hat offsets.

The above is a picture of the big red install on my 951. I used the Lindsey hats with 993 TT rotors. The Lindsey hats are a work of art and are each 1.5 lbs lighter than the factory TT hats. The color of your hats leads me to think your setup is kolken. Their products were that color scheme.

I don’t see backing plates or wear sensors on your setup. I installed both on mine. I modified 993 GT3 backing plates and had a machinist creative a program for his mill to cut the slots in the pads to accept the wear sensors. I use Pagid blue pads and they do not come ready for wear sensors.

Another thing that is odd about your big red caliper 951 installation is that from your picture it appears they are mounted on the leading edge of the rotor, which is not the normal brake caliper mounting position for a 951. The normal position is how Bill's big red caliper is mounted (see pictures above) on the trailing edge.

Honestly I can't say for sure if the hubs are '86 or '87-88. I'll have to check on that.

I tried to search for pics/info on Kolken and couldn't find anything. I'm not familiar with them at all. Are they still around or am I just missing something here?

Thanks again for the help!

I'm assuming the hubs are different based on the earlier comment. Sounds like my best option is to figure out what hubs are installed on this car and try the appropriate hat to see if that fixes our offset problem. The only info I have is a list provided by the prior owner but it's pretty vague. The list states that the car has...

· 993 TT front and rear Big Red brakes

· Fairly new 944 Turbo S axles and CV joints

· Fairly new front and rear wheel bearings

...no mention of if the hubs were ever changed with 87+ hubs. Guess we'll have to hunt for a part # and see if we can figure that out.

Here's the entire build list in case I missed something pertinent.

It is the spindles that will determine what hardware you need to mount the big reds. I converted my ‘86 spindles (radial Mount) to the ‘88 Turbo S spindles (axial mount). The big reds bolt directly to the Turbo S spindles. To mount big reds on ‘86 spindles, you will need all the Lindsey adapting hardware. The hats need to be changed to space the brake disks so they are centered in the brake calipers. You can use any hub, but the Turbo S hub is supposed to be stronger, but both are known to fail. Racers Edge makes a billet hub that is supposed to be bullit proof.

Pull a rotor, there should be a part number on it. I have big reds on my '89 car, and used 965 rotors.

Update: Verified the car has 87+ hubs. According to Lindsey Racing I should just need the 87+ caliper adapters and rotor hats. Parts are ordered, fingers crossed!
