Default Any tutorial on 968 CS steering wheel on 944 turbo non-air bag

Hi all, I tried searching high and low on a thread regarding installing a 968 CS wheel on my 86 non-air bag 944 turbo. I only found tutorials on installing on air-bad equipped 1987+ models. I did buy the horn pad adapter from Ian at 944 online. I asked him if he had any instructions on installing that horn pad and he said it was really easy..... Havent tried installing it yet, but I like to go into things with a game plan and some knowledge as what Im doing. If anyone has installed one I would love some directions or a lead to a thread that has already been posted. thank you. I attached a photo of the wheel I have. It is an OEM wheel by the way.

You don't need tutorial, simply put old one off and new one on.

It’s been a while since I did mine but iirc you need to swap the turn signal cancel ring over to the new wheel. I’ve heard they often break on removal, mine didn’t so I guess I was lucky, if you need a new one it’s part# 911.347.099.05.

Yeah, that the part I got from 944 online. That thing was $97 bucks. I hope it doesnt break!. That was the part I was confused about. I was not sure If I attached that new contact part on to the wheel, or if I had to remove the one that is on the steering wheel currently. Thank you. Seems easy enough.

It's pretty straight-forward. Swap the horn ring (or install a new one) on the new wheel as people said. The horn pad itself pulls off -- every time it feels like it's going to break but hasn't yet. Be sure to set the wheels straight and install the steering wheel straight, so it will be on the right spline and not rotated when driving straight ahead. I little electrical grease on the copper horn contact can help avoid a scratchy noise when turning. Be sure to use the factory spring washer you'll find under the big steering wheel mounting nut. A helper to hold the wheel when you crank on the nut helps, but usually not necessary.

Bay Area, but SoCal has more than it's share of 944 owners, including Lart, who generally owns about half of the 944s on earth at any given time...

I have met Luis (Lart). Great guy. He came out to my house when I got my car to see if he could diagnose a fault I was having with my Lindsey tune.
