rear "turbo" badges and locations?
hey all, Im nearing getting this thing on the road, the PO painted the car in a custom color, (thanks moron! you couldn't pick one of a billion colors in the paint books, no you had to have a custom mixed formula, that makes everything so much easier! )
so there were no badges on it, I have an original badge laying around, but wanted something fresh looking, and was just going to use one of the newer 996+ turbo badges. BUT they are crazy expensive, cheapest I could find was $135!! (for chrome)
Goes on ebay; $5..... yes, wait; they are the "new style" from the 997, they are smaller 5" instead of 7"......
Hrrrmmmmm, but its $5 vs $135, well I got one, lets see how it looks.
Not bad, still smaller then I'd like, but maybe make do until I find a deal on the larger size?
heres a pic to compare the sizes.
Personally I prefer the newer look (but really I just wanted a chrome one, maybe I'll try and smoke tint it)
Now heres the other issue, where to place it? I was contemplating the middle of the panel, as opposed to the stock Right location. (I probably wouldn't put the OE badge in the middle, but this one might work) Remember 968's had their badge in the middle)

actually no, the lock is above the center line, that doesn't seem to be an issue.
Certainly doesn't mean it couldn't look really good, just hard to picture in my mind. What's the custom color, any pics?

its inky purple or midnight violet, looks dark blue to purple , or black at night, depending on the light, this is the most vivid shot of the color, looks blue or purple depending on your screen

likely too late for me, however I suggest factory location, Porsche has the best designers/engineers in the automobile universe, they selected the passenger right rear, they know what they're doing and they make design decision specific to each car. If they thought turbo would look good on a 951 in the center rear they would have put it there and vice versa for the 968 Turbo S ( right rear passenger side instead of center). I close with this quote from Chief Mana-tuk-tuk of the ancient Umikoa: "No man can tell another man what to do"

That color looks pretty cool! I am a huge fan of Daytona Violet. I kind of like it centered, almost wish it was a little bigger. Not really a fan of that new badge in the stock location.
Nice bike!

I was in the same situation years ago having bought a smaller chromed turbo badge. The size I justify with the fact that I have a smaller turbo (K26-6, although modified and can run to 25 psi), but noted that the original location was just under the drain hole of the OE wing and easily collected debris, so much for the infallible designers. So I placed the badge inward just outside the debris path.

I think the reason mounting the turbo in the center works for the 968 is that PORSCHE is inscripted just underneath turbo above the bumper.
Not so in the case with the 951 - it will be just above your license plate...also, the back end shape doesn't flow like the 968.
Your car though and you can always remove and replace if you eventually don't like it.
