Help establishing values of 951
I'm currently looking at a great original 1986 951 with 40K miles, one owner, all paperwork from new. Everything works but the radio and clock. Guards red/Black vinyl sport seats and sunroof.
Any help appreciated, I don't know the market. I seem to remember them at 12-15K. Seller wants twice that. Car is a great example.
Thanks!

Prices are rising...
$12 to $15k will get you a really nice one with around a 100k miles.
An original owner with a legitimate 40k miles should be able to get $20 to $25k, maybe even more. Put that thing up in a public auction and it could go for a lot if pristine.
Here is one with lower miles but closely comparable that sold for $33k.

If it is nice, go get it for $20k cash. It'll be worth way more than that in the coming years...

I think 25-30K is fair for a pristine 40K 951, if service is up to date. If it needs a full service I'd use that to negotiate.
As someone lister noted, show up with cash and start talking. It goes a long way for the seller.

I'd look at Bring a Trailer. You get to see very detailed information, and the end price.
Hagerty I wish I could believe, but cross-referencing against the real world (BaT), their numbers are out of whack. Their average is skewed too high by getting their info from high-end auctions. I'd look to Hagerty as a seller but not as a buyer :P
eBay is a crapshoot, PCA/Craigslist/Autotrader/etc. - you'll never know what it sold for.
I don't know where you're located but if you're in a snowy state at this time of year, you hold the advantage. Seller will struggle through to April.
Good luck!

For 40K miles 1986, in very good shape, I'd say going rate is around 28-35K. I watch them pretty closely. Reason why -- I have my 86 with about 40K miles on it on agreed value insurance at 35K. Figure that is fair...
