Default rear axle nuts

The drivers side 32mm axle nut is counter clockwise to undo.
Is the passenger side counter clockwise or clockwise to undo the big 32mm nut?
I am at work right now....just planning my work for the evening. Hard to see without pulling the wheel.

I'm 99% sure they're both right hand thread. At least they were on my NA.

Thanks.

That's what I thought. Haven't taken one off since 2009.

The nut is one time use. It will need to be replaced.

Good tech info Thanks. Lots of time to get new nuts. I am slowly pulling apart the RAGE2 car. Only the passenger rear control arm, torsion bar carrier, transaxle and torque tube left to remove for the suspension/drive train. When I drop the fuel pump cover and pump/filter the entire car will be striped on the outside.

Tip for re-installing - use the old nut to pull the stub axle and hub together. Then spin it off with the impact and put the fresh nut on. You will need some one to sit in the car, with the car in gear and on the ground, and stand on the brakes while you torque it.

Well I will be removing the nuts with the control arm removed from the car. The car is not heavy enough because it's completely striped of weight. My 2 foot breaker bar just kept spinning the tire. Car is up on blocks also.

Had a minor set back. The 2 bolts that hold the control arm to the spring plate snapped off. Fortunately the one for the sway bar did not break. Need to now drop the control arm with the torsion bar tube. Once that is done all that's left is the transaxle and torque tube.

Removing is easy - just get a big *** impact gun with the air cranked up.

Yes I should probably buy a larger impact gun. My 1/2 inch drive gun is not big enough at 120 lbs. Had this issue in the past with bigger things.

We use a Harbor Freight model - earthquake? I think it is called. Works great. Had to order the impact socket though. Good luck.

Or, use the Whole Earth Catalog method: 184 lb. guy stands on the end of a horizontal 2' breaker bar, or do the math and stand accordingly closer to the hub if you're heavier.

You can hook a really long pry bar through the axle studs to hold it into place.

I use a semi truck tire iron, about 3 foot long.

What size are the nuts? If they are 36mm or 46mm you can use hammer wrenches made for this specific job. Look up tool #7203 and #7204 on Bughaus. Mine came off in like 30 seconds using that.

Air impact tool, generates about 650 ft-lbs torque, easy peasy.
