Default SEALING RING OIL PICK-UP question (Mistake, it is not related to OIL PICK-UP)

Hi,

I am putting back my oil filter mount piece (which is connected to the external oil cooler) and there is a sealing ring which is provided in the kit that suppose to seal the oil pick up tube.

The side in the block make sense to me, but the other side touches an area that has no flat area to seal to.

Does this seal do anything or is it redundant on the car?

I could not find any mentioning to it in the workshop manual and I suspect it may be more relevant for the internal oil cooler piece.

Thanks,
Yoram

This is the surface I understand will touch on the filter holder piece

filter holder piece

the old ring. you can see how it became deformed from the ribs

This seal is from Victor Reinz seal set and is meant to seal the pickup tube to block connection.

Whoever put it there was high on something.

Original porsche seal for pickup tube looks a bit different with beveled edges.

Here is a pic of the correct seal for the pickup tube.

I see.

Thank you so much for the useful information and patience.

I may have confused this seal name as I have not gotten this far into the engine. Sorry about that. It is just that I could not find this seal anywhere else in parts diagrams.

I only opened the head and at the same time opened the oil cooler to replace its seals.

I remembered this seal falling to the ground when I disassembled the oil cooler (90% sure about it)

When I looked at the oil cooler seal kit there is a seal that look somewhat close to it

This is what I suspect it was

My guess is that it fell of this place:

*** There is also a slight chance it fell off somewhere else while I was taking things apart and I was mistaken to associate it with the oil cooler housing.

Only the two green o'rings and gasket are used for the 944T housing.

Other seals, shims, etc. are used for the internal cooler type (not you).

Thanks, this is exactly what I was hoping to hear.
I suspect the PO got the full kit and just placed this seal in there because he was not sure.

There is a black seal for the pickup tube, however in the Victor Reinz kit, this seal is a foggy clear see through. The black seal that comes in the kit you have is for early Na 944s that use a different housing. That seal is provided as a one kit fits all cars type of kit. I commonly see turbo cars where people put them in not really knowing. What's funny is most people put them back in because they found one taking the old housing off lol. Quick Google search and here you go. That seal is too wide to fit the pickup tube. But it does look close before trying it in person.
