Default Alternative brake calipers ?

Despite new discs, pads and fluid my 90 turbo front brakes feel under powered under hard road use. Rebuilding is an option, but I wondered if there's an alternative newer caliper that's an uprate, without needing a mortgage ?

They should not feel under powered even under hard road use, I hpde mine regularly on the track and they work very well, the only “upgrade” I’ve done is to run higher boiling point brake fluid. The only time I’d consider an upgrade is if I took it further and raced it. It might be time to rebuild your front calipers.

Understood, but if my calipers need new pistons I'd be interested in alternatives.

993TT or 928GTS calipers and rotors are the common and proven route though not cheap. Lindsey Racing has all you need. There are a few cheaper options out there iirc using Volvo or Lexus calipers but I’m not sure they are any better.

I'd expect them to be a lot cheaper though ?

Best option is to keep your eye on Facebook, eBay and here for a used set of big blacks or reds, they do come up now and then.

The LS430 calipers are bigger and monoblock. Volvo 240 calipers, which I run on my NA, are a slight upgrade from NA calipers but are designed for an NA rotor... not applicable here. Honestly if you're having issues check other parts before blaming the calipers, I agree they should be more than sufficient as stock.

Used Big reds/blacks are silly money over here, and likely need rebuilding anyway. My brakes work OK but our Fiesta ST definitely pulls up better. I was just looking for a mass produced caliper that would fit and doesn't come with Porsche tax attached.

If you're ok making adapter plates it'd be hard to beat the value/performance of Willwood calipers.

Most of their offerings are ~$120/caliper and come in a huge variety of piston size, rotor thickness ranges, etc.

Thanks for the pointer, no access to a milling machine at the moment though. I thought perhaps someone made an adaptor kit ?

I have a set of front and rear C2 calipers that I bought for a project that I would sell. Let me know if you are interested.

Rebuild the ones you have they are more than adequate for the task. If you want to be different paint them to match your girlfriends finger nails.

How do they compare to late 944t front calipers and do they fit ?

What brand/model of pad are you using?

Does your 90 Turbo have the 928S4 calipers?
