S4 calipers, Textar pads.

Thanks for the link. If it's not economical to rebuild my calipers I'll research that setup.

Have you looked into ducting for your brakes?

I'm in a situation very similar to yours and just went through this same process. I couldn't find a reasonably priced alternative and had my stock calipers rebuilt. My next step is to add ducting next season.

I have heard of very good results from ducting and hoping it will help. In the end I decided to try and get the maximum performance out of the parts designed for the car before going a different route.

If it doesn't work, I'll still have the ducting in place for whatever else I put on the car and I can sell my recently rebuilt calipers. I can live with that.

Have ducts through the wheel arch liner, and 968 ones on the struts.

Are you finding the pedal getting soft, or the car just doesn't slow down enough for the amount of pressure you put on the pedal? I race on the M030 (928 S4) brakes and they seem to be plenty for 80min races on a 2600lb car with 240RWHP. Maybe a different pad or fluid would give you what you are looking for. I do love big brakes though, so I don't want to dissuade you from building a new kick-*** setup.

To be honest I do not know. I think they are the same as the 944 Turbo brakes. I will check them out tonight and post the part numbers

Pedal has always been hard, even with the old fluid, discs and pads. Servo works ok.

Thanks, though distance and potential fitment issues are probably against us.

mr. blade - have an assistant apply the brake pedal moderately hard and then again full-panic-stop, while you observe the brake servo/master cylinder assembly.

i wonder if perhaps you have somehow succumbed to the cracked/flexible firewall that plagues LHD 944s.

my Subaru has a paper-thin firewall, a known issue for 17 years (!) of production and the flexibility allows the brake booster/MC to move a full 1/8" with moderate pedal pressure which makes the pedal feel like stepping into warm hummus.
several vendors sell a brace to arrest the movement of the servo/MC assy and it improves pedal feel and actual brake effectiveness markedly.

perhaps you are in the same boat.

Something isn't right. S4 calipers are more brake than needed for street use.

Problem with the vacuum assist?

I have a feeling the pad compound is too hard or too low of a friction coefficient.

Do you get into the ABS?

Car is RHD but I'll take a look at the firewall and linkage.

I stood on the pedal and then started the car, can feel the vacuum assist kick in. I thought the old pads may be the issue so changed to the Textar pads. ABS is working too.

Agree, something definitely not right.

I found the limit of the non-MO30 brakes a couple of times on an '87 944T, factory ducting, etc. but this was in a DE setting with a 3100lb loaded with all options car with 325 RWHP, 130mph down to 90, 110mph down to 70 and 90mph down to 45 in three consecutive corners was more heat than they could dissipate. Melted the valve stem caps right off and if you spit on the wheel, it would sizzle right off....

Don't see how the upgraded brakes could not be up to the task on the street.
