Default 951 Instrument cluster

I had taken out my instrument cluster to repair the broken odometer gear and in doing this the clear plastic front came off. Since it is off, I was wondering if anyone had ever resealed one of these. I was planning on using a good liquid super glue along the top edge but I am open to suggestions.

I would also like to know what I should use to clean the clear plastic and possibly remove a few of the light scratches that are on the face of it.

thanks

There is a multi step lexan clean/polish product made by Novus for race windshields that would work well.
Careful of the superglue - it will fog some clear plastics. test it first.

Thank you, Chris.

If I don't use super glue, what would you recommend using to reseal the front face? I would prefer to only do this once if at all possible.

I bought some of this Bondic plastic weld stuff a while ago but haven't used it yet so no idea it actually works as advertised.
Does mean that you get to glue the outside surfaces instead of inside the clear plastic cover, so hopefully no fogging will occur.

Hold off before you do that. You may want to install some aluminum beauty rings first. The clear face has to be separated from the body just as yours is right now in order to do that.

I have rebuilt a number of gauge clusters (bad speedo gears, usually) and have had great success with using:
* Meguiar's G12310 PlastX Clear Plastic Cleaner/Polish ($10) and micro fiber rags
* Liquid Nails LN207 All Purpose 2.5-Ounce Adhesive - do not use super glue

While you have the unit apart, good time to:
* paint the black surround (unscrews from unit) using Rustoleum Flat Plastic Paint
* use aluminum foil or other to improve the lighting on the bottom of the unit
* if your needles are faded, use orange model paint - needs to be thinned slightly

I used turtle wax rubbing compound and my Griots garage orbital with soft black finishing pad. Came out crystal clear.

I used a silver sharpie to recolor the reflective material when I had my gauges out for the odo gear repair earlier this year. Worked well to help the backlighting .
