thanks to all commentary thus far, I am currently in an email exchange with PCA ebrake news and now have a copy of the article in print, written by N. Mayersohn a "sports car" guy, journalist, former deputy editor of the Auto section at the New York Times. Anyhow, I mentioned to ebrake that the comparison is ill advised and certainly Porsche must've understood what the outcome would be given 30 years of tech advances? Why bother with this comparison? At this point they are claiming journalistic integrity. I'm in process of crafting a letter to the editor of Pano.

951 is faster car than that bloated chariot. Its just marketing stunt. Sport car vs suv that looks like something kia would concieve. I like Nissan juke more and it's ugly like sin.
Somewhere along the line porsche totally forgot what porsches should be all about.

Why it wasn't a fair comparison, they should have tried the 951S that would have made for the extra 10 seconds the gaycan gts had over the stock 217hp 951

The way this car was leaning, they are probably the original 1987 struts/shocks with the bump stops rotted off.

it was, at best, amusing.
base 951 vs base Macan woudl have been a better match.
BTW - I didn't used to be a fan of the Porsche SUVs, but after 5 years with a used Cayenne I am actually impressed with them. They are not sports cars....but for 5k lbs the Cayenne will hustle down the road and then off the road pretty well. The Cayenne now has 156k miles on it and many of those were off road in the Rockies. Other than a fuel pump failure it has never left me stranded.

I'm not crest fallen that the track times turned out the way they did. I wouldn't expect a 30 year old car with improper tires and brake set up to beat a brand new, technological advanced driver aided vehicle. And I've been told and would like to believe that my ego is OK and my common sense is more important than my ego. This article/video makes no sense, in my opinion.
