Default Describe your most amazing experience in a sportscar

I haven't driven many sports cars. I've only owned 2... a 924 named Gramps and a 944 named Wilson.

In an effort to improve my driving and also provide entertainment, last year I sold Gramps and spent part of the proceeds into a "simulation" driving set up (feedback steering wheel, shifter & 3 pedals). It provides endless enjoyment & helps me focus on looking ahead, experiment with techniques & whatnot.

I really dig the experience with THIS car: the winning rally car known as the Alpine A110. With this car in Monaco, doing a classic rally (simulation) I was able to, for the first time ever get a first place win.

Experience:
Excellent linear power delivery (not too much to get out of control yet enough not to desire more).
Brakes: Yup.

Handling: EXCELLENT. Its a rear engine rwd car which I have enjoyed in other platforms for "playfulness"...

As in FEEDBACK and RESPONSE to inputs & outputs.

You have to respect the limits of adhesion, but the suspension is pliant enough to respond to left foot braking as a technique to load the steer tires. Great turn in. Goes exactly where you want it to without spinning out unexpectedly (like one of my other favourite cars - the Lancia Group B rwd).
I'm not saying this was my most amazing experience in a sports car but the experience does blow me away.
What cars have blown you away?

Now... it's entirely possible the very best experience I would have behind the wheel or in the passenger seat of this car would be to travel back in time and have Michelle Mouton piloting or navigating.... mmmm. Yeah for real!

The most amazing...it was year 2000. I had my first 951 for about three months. I was stationed at west fort hood, TX. Sgt Biron was talking $hit to me about having a 4 cylinder, he had a 89 mustang 5.0. I just got back from taking my Sgt Huffman to lunch when sgt Biron started in. I told him get in the passenger seat and I'll shut him up and teach him some respect. He actually did. So... at the north side of west fort hood airfield is a strait stretch that goes down hill about 3/4 mile, then up about 50 yards into a left hand turn at the crest of the hill back into a sharp right. I took that strait at 120mph, at the crest I was at 95MPH (my friends spun their cars out at 45MPH at the crest). Then the right turn at 65MPH to finish the lesson. I couldn't believe the 951 actually stayed on the road without going airborne let along spin out. Needless to say Sgt Biron gained total respect for the 951 and never said a bad word about my four banner again. That was the first time I hit the 951 limits and then some.

I got to spend an hour driving a Ferrari 458 Speciale around the hills of Marenello last year. Definitely the most awesome sports car experience I have ever had on a public road - V8 winding to 9000rpm sounds unbelievable, beautifully balanced razor sharp handling and just the intoxication of realising a long time dream to drive a Ferrari in Italy, with beautiful scenery and then seeing the locals in the villages who love the cars and wave at you as if you are some type of celebrity as you snarl through narrow lane ways. I should have been born a Ferrari factory test driver....

Soon followed by total depression after the drive, realising I will never ever be able to afford to own anything like it. I'm still depressed a year later.

I drive amazing Porsche sports cars every day for my job, new and old.

While working on and riding in the original RUF CTR "Yellow Bird" is up there, as was tossing a GMG-built 650-hp 996 GT2 race car around Streets of Willow a number of years ago, I must say that the euphoric feeling of getting Turn 2 at Willow Springs just right in my 951 and achieving a perfect 4-wheel drift at the exit phase of the turn at 90+ MPH is pretty satisfying!

I got the chance to ride in A110, pretty awesome car. Best handling car I ever drove is probably Lancia Delta Hf Integrale. Completely out of this world.

Mind sharing the set-up/ technique? I have Willow and a ton of other tracks over the globe on "project cars" simulation on ps4 that is as close as I will get to the real thing for the next while, but I can start learning now

Exit turn 1 full throttle in 4th, possibly a small dab of brakes on turn in to 2, bring towards a late apex by steering with the throttle, spot the exit and roll on full throttle, drift out to edge of track and blast down short straight to turn 3. Look up Jack Olsen Willow Springs Instructions on YouTube, he's pretty good.
