Question Teledial centers

Hi all,

My apologies if I'm posting an existing topic. Searched to no avail...

It's obvious that my teledial centers had a black background on the Porsche badge that has since worn away.

I'm considering re-painting them.

First off, how do they come off? I see two little holes. Do I just insert two small screwdrivers and twist? Is there a special tool?

Secondly, I see a lot of them without any black in the background at all. What is "normal" for a 1986 944 lux?

To remove them you need something (they make a tool) to hook behind both of those holes and pull straight out. Can't help with your paint question.

Normal...silver monochrome center caps on silver teledials.

If your car had painted/colored center caps, they were most likely added, after the fact, by a previous owner.

Alternately, if you take the wheels off the car, you can just push the caps out from behind.

You can use any thin L shape tool such as a small hex key or a hose puller and just pull it straight out.

This thread has a nice example of rejuvenating the center caps.

Default Thanks

Thanks for all of the responses. I just used a piece of bent coat hanger wire to pop them off and then followed the procedure you linked to Roka.

Got 'em shiny and new looking and back on the car in a matter of a couple of hours.

Rennlist FTW again.
