Rear axle seal replacement easy?
The axle seals are leaking a bit, pricey gear oil....
What's the steps to replacing the seals?
I didn't see clarks garage have any info on this.

I think I posted a detailed procedure in the past, may be worth searching for it since I was probably more detailed there than I will be here. In brief,
- drain transmission fluid.
- remove the inner CV joint; may be easier to remove the whole half-shaft.
- remove the output flange by removing its center bolt. counter-hold by sliding a punch through one of the six CV joint bores.
- clean enough grime away to notice the depth the current seals are installed. you need the new seals at that depth.
- pack new seals with MoS2-free grease (if you have LSD, otherwise any grease will do).
- install new seals to proper depth.
- lube output flange where it rides on seal, reinstall output flange, torque center bolt to 24 Nm / 17 ftlb. I use a little red thread locker.
- reinstall CV joint, tightening to spec in an "opposites" pattern like torquing down a wheel.
- refill transmission fluid.
There is a special tool for installing the seal that, when I bough it, was quite inexpensive. It is worth every penny to me because it makes installing the seal and getting the depth right easy. Available from Zelenda in Queens, NYC. Good luck!
