Default Which DME fits the 944 -83?

Hi!

I've got a 944 -83 with a broken DME, serial number 944.618.111.02 but these seem to be nearly impossible to get a hold of. So my question is, do for example the ones ending with 00/03 fit my car seeing as there are plenty of these available?

Thanks alot for all answers regarding my question!

Early cars are '83 through early '85. As long as it comes out of a square dash car, it should work. If you get a series 2 DME, you'll also need a series 2 AFM.

Let me look around, I'm pretty darn sure I've got a spare DME from an '84. Do you have the numbers off of yours just to make sure they're the same? I've got two spare DMEs (one '84 and one 87' I believe) so let me grab them this evening and I can let you know if you're interested? Also, there's a place called Specialized ECU in Florida, I sent mine there a couple years ago (before I had the spare) and they fixed it for $350 I believe it was.

944.618.111.01 and 0 261 200 015. Looks like this one might be a hair earlier version than the one currently in your 944. I tested it a couple years ago and it ran in my 944, but the specs must be a little different cause she was running a little rough, but then again that may be because the higher compression ratio in my later model. It came out of a brown '84 that had caught on fire in the engine bay. It melted everything on the top end, but they must've put it out pretty quick cause the bottom end was in decent shape and the interior was still perfectly fine. It should work, but anyone want to chime in to verify? PM me if interested.

If somebody could verify that it will indeed fit and work then I would definitively be interested!

I take it that the ones without cat should be interchangable seeing as all 944 83-85 have the m44.01/03 engine? That would be the DMEs ending in 00/02/03

After doing some research I'm almost positive it'll work. The later versions of DMEs have totally different model numbers. Your DME is mounted under the driver side dash right? This one came out of an '84 so it should work for all the early models.

I did some research aswell and it seems that your DME (01) is for 944's with cat's, mine doesn't have one 😕

Huh, I didn't realize the M44.02 didn't ship with a catalytic converter? Is it a euro 944? Well, if you'd like to try it, just let me know and I can ship it to you. Just trying to help man.

Yep it's a euro 944 (I'm from Sweden), I'd love to try your DME though! You never know, it might work!

Ohhhhh! That explains it! Yeah, if it's a euro I doubt it the dme would work. I'm not sure how shipping across the pond would go, sorry I can't be more help. You could always try to have it repaired, the place I used fixed mine in about a week or so and gave a 5 year warranty! I'm sure there's a place like that in Sweden or somewhere in Europe at the least.
