Had to punch it and it SMOKED!!
We took our 85 944 out yesterday for a drive. After we pulled off the road to check something and while pulling back on the road(we had to hurry all of a sudden due to car topping the hill), we hit it pretty good. Looking back, there was smoke. Not a lot, it wasnt black, but a definite smell of burnt oil and exhaust emitted from the car. The oil pressure gauge went nuts. It had been on in between 2 and 3 on the gauge, normally, but the whole time going back home it was on between 1 and half and 2. And every now and then, it would bounce to 5, quickly, and back down to 1, then settle between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 again. Are the rings going bad? Any suggestions?
The car definitely has power, there is no loss of power here. We've had the car for about 3 months now and it has about 170K miles.
Thanks

Check the air box,MAF,J-boot and clean if contaminated with motor oil. And change the seals in the AOS if bad.I also had low oil pressure readings once with a sticky oil pressure relief valve. After I took it apart and cleaned it no more low readings.

It's in the oil cooler housing on the right side of the engine. Don't take the housing off or you'll need an alignment tool for the OPV reinstall. Do you have a compression tester?

Just changed the oil, black as can be. No milky looking at all. After oil changed, started it up, oil pressure went to max(5) and stayed there. For this car, when you first start it, it stays on 5, max, for a bit then lowers back down to 2 1/2-3. Going to take it out and see what it does now.

Go to Clark's and get the info you need to pull and clean the OPRV and do a compression test to see if indeed you do need rings. If it smoked and smelled like oil, somethings up.
