Default 944 S2 oil cooler compatibility

I have a late (87) 944 with the stock oil/water oil cooler. I'd like to upgrade to a factory turbo or S2 external oil cooler setup.

Is the 944 S2 oil cooler setup (pictured in this ebay link) compatible? I cant put my finger on it but something about the housing looks different than the 951 setups Ive seen.

Also, are those hoses on backwards?

Are the 2.5L and 3.0L housings actually interchangeable with either block, and still fully compatible in form, fit, and function?

The S2 oil filter housing differs from the 951 part. The shape is all different, and the oil pressure sender is pointed backward instead of towards the side. But more importantly, the 951 cooler hoses screw on with flare fittings, the S2 (and 968) hose ends only seal with o-rings.

Each system is compatible with a 944, but only as a complete kit. I.e. you can't mix 951 parts with S2 parts, etc.

Be sure to use whatever OPRV your engine originally came with, not the one from the new oil cooler setup!

Yes. I installed the oil cooler housing from a 3.0 S2 onto my 2.5 S block. No issues whatsoever.

Useful information. Makes sense, as both the housing and cooler have different part numbers between models.

Again, useful information.
