Default Oil Cooler in Bumper Pad Location?

So i'm working through my LS 86 NA 944 swap at what may seem like a painfully slow pace to some...

From talking to others on the hybrids board I've determined that I would like to add an oil cooler and I was wondering if anyone had added one in spot of the big ugly black bumper pads or somewhere else in that front bumper panel.

I know some folks add them to the front lower valence, but it doesn't look like there would be a ton of room for me there to run a decent size stacked plate cooler...

If you have another creative solution let me know

You can run it under the header panel. Depending on what mounting bosses were welded on your chassis at the factory, you may only need to fab a couple of simple 90* brackets. It's a low pressure area so you should get good air flow through there. It's where the stock intercooler on a 944T is mounted.

Love that idea! I'll take the header panel off today once I get home and see what kind of clearance I'll have in there.

Ordered a Setrab cooler to go in the spot. Might be a while but I'll update the thread with photos once it gets installed

You'd be surprised how big a cooler you can fit...
Here is my old one...

There are some more pictures on this thread. That cooler is long gone but it should give you an idea.

I use a cooler from an '87 944 Turbo, located behind where the right fog lamp would be with a simple U-shaped bracket. Uses the same two oil hoses from the '87 944 Turbo. I bent the power steering cooling loop out of the way. Has worked great there for twenty years or so.

So the oil cooler got here a couple days ago and here it is sitting where it'll be mounted. I have bigger fish to fry right now but I'll make some brackets for it soon enough! I had a hard time finding a stacked plate cooler that was very wide but not tall... this was as big as I could find that would for sure fit in the space.

How are you planning to get air flow to it in that location?
