Possible leaky injector, bad fuel regulator, weak fuel pump. All are possible (among others) Pull vacuum hose off regulator/dampners, if fuel smell it is bad. Pressure needs be checked with guage on rail. I do not recall #needed but look for pressure dropping (indicates leaking injector) Hope this helps some.

Check the temp sending unit to the computer not to the gauge. there are a few main sensors that make the engine run. TPS, MAF, Crank and reference sensors, TEMP sensor, IAT sensor, oil level sensor(87+models), cam sensor(16 valve). But the sympom you are talking about seems to point to the temp sensor. But check them all and there connections. The O2 sensor only works when it's in closed loop so it's not a main sensor, but a secondary. Also check for any mechanical issues. The temp sensor should be mounted into the side of the block. I believe it's the one with the two wire on it, not the one going into then water port to the water pump.

Pretty sure this is the computer's temp sending unit going into the water jacket around the Pistons, and the gauge sending unit is the one above it in the photo that's in the water passage going to the water pump.

You've got that backwards.

OP needs to spec the sensor ABOVE the one you are pointing at...the one mounted to the water neck.

What did you do...replace the DME coolant temp sensor [944.606.125.00]?
