Should I buy?

Should I buy?
Hello all I am new to this forum and have been looking for a 944 na. I found one that might be worth it so I'd like to run it by the experience on here. He wants 5000. The odometer broke at 42k two years ago (so he says). He is the second owner. He is a car collected and has about 12 older classic cars. He's an older gentleman that seems honest and really into his cars. The car is garage kept and from what I can tell is near perfect. He has pretty decent records of the timing belt, clutch, water pump and so on. I understand that the odometer is common but if he takes care of his cars so well why isn't it fixed. Makes me wonder. Also he claims the original owner was in a Porsche club and treated the car like a baby. He has all dvds and manuals. I'm truly leaning towards buying this car and wanted to see what you guys think. He said he's selling it bc he wants more indoor storage for other cars he's buying. Your input is appreciated, thanks you

look closely
I would look at this vehicle closely. 944's are meant to be drivin, not stored for long periods of time. Find a good Porsche shop who knows 944s and have them do a good prepurchase inspection for you. Should cost you about $150.00 to $200.00 and is money well spent. Make sure they look at the timing belt and water pump.

In my opinion there is no good substitute for a pre purchase inspection so do that but if some minor stuff is broken and you want a project car I would take it (try to talk him down first of corce) because I bought my 944 and every time I see it I start to smile, its a great feeling

For the money I would look for a 85 and half or later and get a more modern interior and aluminum control arms. should be able to get a good one for 5k. and ppi is a must on these cars. Also they do not do well not being driven. good luck they are great cars.

I've an '83. A Mechanic you can TRUST is PRICELESS. I love mine, but it's been a slow restoration, done in sections over 12 years. The odometer issue is a broken piece you can glue. Not that difficult to get too, just some patience.
