Angry noisey 944

I just completed a belt, rollers, seal kit and updated water pump job on my early 85 944. When we started it up it now makes a whining noise or whizzer noise which it did not do before. My mechanic said this is typical, however i did some checking with several people and got varied responses. The first guy i called said it was more than likely the rebuilt water pump, this answer from Bill Burris the national PCA tech guru on water cooled porsches. I called Intersport in VA who did a rebuild on my 951, they said it was tensioner. Third guy, an import parts guy local said it was the rebuilt pump. I tend to beleive the pump theory but i would like some more input. THANKS

Are you sure it isn't the balance shaft belt? They can make quite a bit of niose if they are even slightly too tight. I would doubt it is the water pump.

I agree, check the tension of the belts.

I also agree it is the balance belt. I did the same job some weeks ago but not the waster pump. I had a whine and slackened the belt but no change. I had to remove it for an oil leak but putting it back,(it was new the first time) the belt was quite. Did wonder if it needs to fit one one side, ie I fitted it second time the opposite way. Worth a try.

It is definitely the balance shaft belt. I just did mine myself and the more I relax the belt the less noise I hear. I will do the final try tomorrow!

Thanks
