Post Brake Fluid level keeps going down

I am noticing that I am having to add brake fluid to the reservoir every couple of weeks, and a small amount of fluid (appears to be brake fluid?) has dripped onto my floormat under my pedals. Any idea what seal, or whatnot could be bad?

Clutch master cylinder.
Replace both master & slave in the same run.
Happy bleeding

Hans hit it on the head. This is a common mileage/age failure on these cars. The good news is that once you do the master and slave, you're likely done for your lifetime. You'll want to do it before the clutch pedal drops to the floor and strands you somewhere.

Keep the shiny side up,

Depending on retailer, approximately $60 for the master, and $50 for the slave.

Be sure to ask for the *clutch* master, NOT the *brake* master.

This might be a good time to get a pressure bleeder to help with the very unpredictable clutch bleeding routine.

Good Luck!

Depending on how long the fluid has been leaking inside, you may want to lift the carpet and check to see if any fluid made it's way underneath. Brake fluid will bubble up the paint, and may be the first step towards rotting floorboards.

Doesn't seem as though it's made it under the carpet. I have the Porsche mats and then a rubber mat on top of those (yeah I know, what's the point of having the Porsche mats?..not sure either)

Thanks for the help guys. Definitely my master cylinder so it and the slave are getting replaced. 430.00!

I have had to replace the CLUTCH master and slave in both of my cars. Bleeding was easy. take a water bottle, poke a hole in the cap and tight fit a piece of clear hose in to reach the bottom, the length outside should be 18-20". when you use it, just loosen the cap on the bottle to let air escape, crack the bleeder (7mm I think)and pump away until there are no more bubbles exiting the hose. Be really careful not to let the resevoir level drop to far.

This method has never failed me. Works like a charm.

Good luck.
