Post Chip or not to chip

I have an 87 944s and am considering a performance chip to improve h.p. and torque..some claim 15 more h.p. and 20 more lb's of torque..actual experiences will help me decide if this is something worth persuing..Thank You.

I have a chip in my S2 and I am very pleased with it. It did not turn my car into a fire breathing dragon, but it did make the car feel much more perky and it makes acceleration feel effortless. The car feels like it does not have to struggle, it just does what it is asked. I am not real sure how much faster it is, but it feels much faster.

I also added an aftermarket ignition system which helped out the low end and it also allows me to set the rev limiter (The chip raised the rev limiter about 400 rpm’s and I set it back to the original rev limit with the ignition system). The car will now pull itself in 1st gear without any throttle input from me.

My chip is from Steve Russakov ( WYNNCLAIMS@aol.com ) and was less then $200. He says the HP increase is about 8 – 12 HP, depending on weather conditions. I am not sure if he makes one for the S, but an E-mail to him may be worth the effort. There are many S2 owners has his chip in their car.

I have a 1987-944S that I installed a Autothority chip about a year ago and my butt dyno feels a difference. At about the same time I added a cone filter and free flow muffler, but the combination of the 3 has perked up the performance.Like many NA guys, these changes do not make it perform like a turbo but it will pull stronger!Hope this helps. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
