Post Transmission oil choice

I currently have ( synthetic transmission oil Castrol?) in my 944S2. In the morning, when it about 45 F outside, it's difficult to shift into second and third gears at any speed. I can even feel a couple gear teeth rubbing before going into second gear.

Maybe this is normal, as I'm accustomed to a Honda Prelude that shifted very easily, relatively. My 944S2 always seems harder to get into gear, though, except when I've driven it hard for around 20 minutes.

My question is whether a different transmission fluid would help this or if I just need to get better at shifting gears.

thanks,
Bryan

Never any guarantees with this, but I've used several different brands and found Redline 75W90 to be the best (by feel and noise)

YMMV... Good Luck!

That is definitely not normal. When I lived in Colorado, I had an S2, and regardless of how cold it was, I never had any trouble shifting gears.

I've always used Swepco and been very happy with it. Mobil 1 has synthetic tranny oil that others have recommended to me, but I haven't tried it yet. Try changing the tranny oil and if that doesn't help then its something else. You might want to check when the clutch was last replaced and what type or brand it is. Good luck...

I just went with Red Line MT-90. It's a GL-4 based, 75W90 fluid that is a little thicker than their MTL. I have an 89 951 with the LSD. Red Line suggested the MT-90 over the MTL since I have the LSD, and I can notice less chatter from the LSD when turning at slow speeds. (They said, if needed, I could even add a half ounce of friction modifier as well to quiet the chatter. Haven't done it yet.) Shifting into second is still a little "sticky" until the fluid is warmed up.

I use redline MTL and don't have any complaints. Some people seem to have had problems with GL-5 fluid in these trannies.
