Post Weltmeister chip

My 85 1/2 944na came with a Weltmeister chip
installed by the previous owner.Has anyone used this performance chip?Does it improve performance?Apparently the Weltmeister chip is designed by Dinan(BMW tuners). It remaps the engine to run on premium fuel with advanced timing.I get a heavy fuel/exhuast smell when
I am at high rpms.Is this normal with a performance chip?Gas is not getting any cheaper and I am considering putting the stock chip back in.Any advice?

Dear Brian,
These chips in a 1985.5 944 NA do absolutely nothing. I have a 1985.5 as well and all my checking around revealed nothing that genuinely improves HP unless you really get into heavy engine modifications.
I would recommend you reinstall the original chip.
The DME installed in a 1985.5 944 is quite crude and basic. It is nothing like the untis which came out a year later for the 1986 models.
Ciao,

PS: My advice came via some of the most expeienced 944 tuners in Germany. If you want a 944 with extra HP you need a 951.
