I did and I have to say I'm pretty happy with it. It drives great, clean, interior looks about a year old, most records, needs a new stereo and SR microswitches looked at. Pics will be posted ASAP. I'm a bit concerned about the chain as it wasn't replaced with the last belts, balance rollers, water pump, and chain tensioner at 92K (109K now). I don't want to wear the cam sprockets and the 92K service was back in 1997 IIRC so the belts may be a bit old. Are there any guidelines on determining if the chain needs replaced? If I go in there should the pump be now replaced as well? Also what kind of Oil pressure should I be seeing? At start-up and idle it's about 2.5 to 3 bar. At 3000 rpm its 4-4.5 bar. Also with just over 100k what oil are y'all running? I like Castrol but not sure if I should run dino or syn. Forgot to ask PO what he ran but I'll check.
TIA,
JB

The oil pressure on my car is at 5 at start up. During driving, it is also about 5. At idle when the car is warm it drops to about 3. It goes as low a 2.5 at idle during the summer when the engine is hot. I drinks about 1 quart of oil every 3,000 miles.
Having spent my teenage years blowing and rebuilding air-cooled VW and Karman Ghia engines, I am a real believer in top-notch oil. I use Redline Synthetic oil. Mobile 1 may work just as well. My car sees some extremes – many miles on a crowded freeway in 1st gear at 1,000 to 3,000 rpms as well as almost weekly bounces off the rev limiter.
Whether Redline is protecting my engine better than Mobile 1 is pure speculation, but it makes me feel better. Either way, I would use a synthetic. If you notice a big increase in oil leaks, you may want to switch back to dino, but an S2 really should not have that problem.

Congratulations!
Do I see a North Carolina S2 Club forming?
A good site to get up to speed on 16V cam chain issues is:
Cam Chain Tensioner
You might also do a search on the issue here at Rennlist. I changed out my tensioner at 110k with a great assist from Michael.

I have used AMSOil as well. The redline is just a little easier for me to get - I usually order some from Paragon when I am getting other parts to help saving on shipping costs. Even with shipping, it costs less to get Redline from Paragon than buying it from our local high performance parts store.
In fact, I have been adding my last bit of AMSOil to my Redline oil whenever I need to top off the oil level.
However, there has been much discussion on this topic on the E-mail list and several of the racers prefer the Redline over the AMSOil. I am not real sure why.

I'd be curious to hear why. I'll have to search the archives.
I agree with others here... use a good quality synthetic, like AMSOIL or Redline. (I'm not a big fan of Mobil 1. That's just my own personal opinion from experience.)

Perhaps you are thinking of me? I've been using AMSOIL for about 13 years. A couple of years ago, I became a dealer primarily because doing so allowed me to purchase their products at cost. (Along with that, I have the option to sell their product line if I choose to do so. Right now, I primarily only do so via a website that I created.)
FWIW, they now have a Preferred Customer program, where $20 for the year allows you to purchase their items at cost.
Hope that helps.

Nice looking car!! Congrats!!
BTW, I love the mats, with the crest!! Are they OEM factory units?
I just bought new Lloyd's mats, but they don't have the Porsche crest on them. I was told that such is not available on the aftermarket. (Porsche pretty much regulates that, right?)
I didn't check with any Porsche dealers... perhaps I should have... but I figured that they would probably be big $$ if I got them from Porsche. Has anyone bought mats with the Porsche crest on them? If so, where? From the dealer? How much?
(I hope that someone doesn't say "Yes... from XXX Company, for about $100." If so, I think I'll be sick!! I paid $95 for a set of four plain black ones.)

I spent way too much time last fall trying to find mats w/authentic porsche crests and finally gave up. I finally bought factory mats (came in a factory box with a very nice crest on it ) with PORSCHE embossed in them from Automotion during one of their periodic 20% off sales - which make high prices about right.
