Red face road trip

I'm planning to take my 89 S-2 81K on the road to New Orleans from Maryland. Besides the rouitne oil change, (recent timing belt, clutch and water pump), should I need to have any other service done? Is this a good idea? This would be my first trip of this length in this car.

It's a great idea (other than weather issues this time of the year). There aren't any real maintenance issues beyond what you've done and general common sense. Avoid interstates (the other roads are more fun). Drive carefully, enjoy the trip.

Thanks for the feedback! I've been itching to put it on the road.

For a really great trip try Yellowstone! Wyoming has spent a lot of money on road repairs and not much on state patrolmen. I drove from Buffalo Wy to Cheyene on a Sunday and found many 100+mph streches of interstate without any other traffic.

I almost forgot to mention the drive from the Northeast gate to Cody Wy. It's called the Chief Joseph highway, newly paved two lane road with huge shoulders and loads of turns (both left and right-NOT for the NASCAR or fient of heart types).

Worland to Buffalo (Ten Sleep Canyon) One of the greatest trips I've made en Porsche Also on that trip in the middle of nowhere I met a speed yellow Lamborghini Countach (I think, maybe Diablo) I later discovered was driven by Peter Egan and his wife from Florida to Monterey when I read about their trip in Road & Track. They didn't mention the 944 that flashed lights at them though

The best open road I've experienced was between New Orleans and Baton Rouge as I past over the Atchafalfa (spelling?) Basin. At the time it was in my 90 5.0 Mustang. I'm sure the 944 experience will be nicer!

I must agree with you peter the whole stretch of I-10 Neworleans to Houston past the Atchafalfa (spelling?) Basin. is a killer drive and not too many police officers on those bridges
