944 S2 running problems
I have a 1990 944 S2 Uk car. I'm having trouble with it restarting after being turned off for a short while e.g. if I pop in the petrol station to fill it up. When I get back in the car it fires into life without any problem and then dies out, the revs just drop, no coughing or spluttering or anything. I turn it over and nothing, again not firing at all. I can try starting it 3 or 4 times and nothing, then on the 5th of 6th attempt it fires up and runs normally. I have also had this happen one or two times while travelling along, all of the sudden it just dies. I pull over and same thing, try starting it 4 or 5 times and nothing, then it fires into life. Sometimes I have to give it pedal to get it going sometimes none at all. So as you can see I'm having trouble dtermining if it's fuel or electrics. Anyone have any experience of this or any clues as to what it may be?
Thanks in advance.

It's in the fuse box under the bonnet, I thinks it's labeled up as the DME relay not fuel pump relay. Try this link , ask for Bert, I bought mine from here, cost about £14.

I had the exact same problem for a while with my S2. After replacing the DME relay a couple times, cleaning the idle stabilizer and a couple other little things, it turned out to be a vacuum hose that was disintegrated under the intake manifold. It was the one that goes down through that hole in the intake manifold and it was messed up on the other end of it. You might just check that while you're in there because I was chasing that problem for about 8 months before we finally figured it out.

Had same thing happen, it was connection in side fuse box from fuse to dme relay. Had to take fuse box out and apart to tighten connection to where fuse plugs in. Fuel pump was not getting 12 volts.

I had the same exact situation as you. Hard start (had to push petal alittle) then un easy idle until the car warmed up. However, I replaced the Fuel pressure regulator, and the injectors and they seemed to have made a little change. I replaced the fuel dampner then and it fixed the problem like that. The hard start is gone and it idles fine right after.
Just another solution if those above dont work.
Good Luck
