Post first post>finally a good forum

hey guys, i guess my search for an active 944 forum has ended! hopefully ill be spending a lot of time here, for i might be buying an 86 944 this weekend. i say might, but its pretty much definite. the car has been sitting for the past 3 years, but is now up and running. reason for this is that the owner moved to texas and had planned on coming back for the car, but things have changed and the car must go. its red/black leather, 90k miles, runs mint, interior/exterior fairly mint. i think ill be getting it for 3500! he has to get rid of it asap. first thing i plan on doing is waterpump/thermostat/belt replacement. what does this run cost wise(exclude labor for i have smart friends). what is the best source to order this stuff from. thanks a lot guys, glad to be on the team!!! <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />

If this car has been sitting for 3 years, DO NOT attempt to start it until the belts have been replaced. Check Paragon or Zims for parts prices, don't forget to aquire some method of adjusting belt tension, ($500 for the factory tool) as doing it wrong could cost you a motor.

Done the belts/pump/seals replacement myself. Labor is not too bad provided you do not have any bolts snap during the waterpump removal. I did the work n my garage over a couple of weekends, not working fast and overcoming some small issues of my own doing. Now that I have done this, I would think I could do it again in 8 hrs. at a normal pace. Boston, eh...If you need a help while working, let me know, if I am free I'd love to lend a hand.

Perhaps I'll see you on the road or at a PCA AX.
Sounds like a nice car, let us know how it turns out.

Cheers,

Hey thanks for the heads up on the BMW club AX's. Always looking for more chances to run. Only problem is they REQUIRE you become a member of the BMWCCA....Oh the shame...

Good luck with the car.

Cheers,
