Phone Dial rims on 1983 944??
Hello. I'm a newbie, so sorry if this is a dumb question. I tried to get an answer from the various FAQs before posting but didn't have any luck. I posted it to the wheels and tires section too.
I looked at a 1983 944 today, but wondered if it would be possible to put phone dial rims on it instead of the standard cookie cutters. I prefer phone dials.
Figured it was better to find out now rather than after I had bought it.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, if they are early Phone Dials with the 23.3mm offset. These are fairly easy to find as they we available on 83 - 86 944's and 951's. The later Phone Dials, on the 87's and up, were 52.3mm offset and they will not fit unless you use spacers. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

Most 5 lug wheels from a pre-87 944 or pre-90 911 will fit. Here is a pic of my 83 944 with 16"
(9" wide rear and 7" front) Fuchs from an 89 911 Turbo. The car has also been lowered about an inch and there is no clearance problem.
So as Icat stated, they will fit if they are from a compatible year.
