Muffler for 944S
I have an 87 944S with a bad flowmaster muffler and no catalytic converter. It makes no backpressure and this is robbing my car mad of torque. What is a good muffler or catback system that runs well with no cat? Thanks for the help guys.

does anyone have any ideas, I'm sure there are lots of you who know good muffler or cat back systems, the only problem is all I've looked at was very pricey, I'd be willing to pay 200 for a muffler just not those lofty 800 prices for cat back systems.

I have a 1987-944S and had Midas install a cat back system utilizing a Ravin muffler, this is a muffler similar to a Flowmaster.I kept the cat but eliminated the resonator and am happy with the results, total cost was about $300.00 if I remember correctly plus a nationwide warranty for what that is worth.

So did you notice any difference performance wise? Or was it the same basically, I'm lookind for one with some more backpressure then mine makes, so I get my low end back, but how does that ravin sound/perform? Thanks.....

Hard to say whether there was a performance increase but it sounds much better. The reason I say hard to tell was I did a chip change and cone filter at the same time, the combination of the 3 did make a difference.

Where did you get your cone filter and chip, That is, who makes them. So you say you felt a noticable difference, how much hp? Just wondering and thanks for the help. Do you think headers would be a good idea on an S car? What other peformance bolt ons are there that you know of? Thanks.

The chip is a Autothority, the cone filter is a unit I picked up from a flea market and made a adapter for to fit my car.I know that Autothority claims 10-20 hp gains,I can not confirm this but I know that after the muffler, chip and cone filter the car pulls much harder than before.I am currently working on a way to have the filter closer to the left front headlite bucket to get it out of the inferno of underhood temps.

Well, that's good to hear since that's the direction I want to go with my car. Anyways, I've ordered the cone filter from Vertex and since I'm going to have a fiberwerks frontend soon, I want to use the holes for the foglights as a sort of ram air system. instead of using my stock foglights, I'll just get some nice aftermarket ones and bolt them to the bottom of top of the main opening in the fascia. But thanks for the help, its greatly appreciated.

Hello basti944s,let me know how the set up fom Vertex works out, when I called them they said they did not have a set up for the 944S.Also would like to hear how you like the Fiberwerks front end because I am thinking about getting one. Thanks

I was looking at an Ansa exhaust, but I think they are just OEM, not yeilding any performance gains, has anyone ever had experience with these systems? Thanks..
