944 Won't crank
I recently purchased a 1983 944 and I've been trying to get it started.
I was told that there was an issue with a sensor or the DME that wasn't letting it start, but it was cranking. When I got it home and got a battery in it, it wouldn't crank and the solenoid will not click. I took out the starter and got it tested, tested perfect. Tried jumping the starter, nothing happened. Turned the engine over by hand, so its not locked up. Checked the wire from the battery to the starter for continuity, and it checked out good too.
Another likely unrelated problem, the headlights went up and turned on, but upon shutting them off, will not go back down.
At the moment, I'm kinda confused as to what to try next. Since the interior was shot, I was planning on turning it into a track car, and can cut out a lot of wiring, so if that is found to be the best solution, so be it.
Any information that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

i just replaced the ignition switch on my 83 944 because of the same problem! i would turn the key and nothing would happen, check to see if the fuel pump primes when you turn the key, if it does your ignition switch is fine if it doesn't it probably went bad. its a pretty easy fix, you gotta pull the steering wheel off and pull everything apart but it only took me about half an hour to do it!
as far as the lights go, I'm not sure. mine did it until i got a new battery in it and now they work fine, my girlfriends fathers 86 944 turbo's lights won't go down though and he thinks its a relay so i guess that could be it! good luck and let me know what happens!
