Default 85.5 944 Project Car

So I'm purchasing a 1985.5 944 this week for next to nothing. This one is NA and has a bit of damage. Most of the damage is cosmetic. It needs a brake line replaced and needs a new battery. Otherwise, it should run fine. The damage was done when the car ran over a stop sign and down a short hillside. The towtruck pulled it up the hill and unfortunately scraped the fender along a tree.

Overall it's not in great condition. But I think it'll make a nice track car with a little bit of tender care. I'd like to strip the interior out, delete the A/C system (the condenser looks damaged anyway), and "kind of" fix up the body panels a little bit (just to the point where it'll be ok to autocross it).

As for the mechanical aspects, the owner had the timing belt done less than 2000 miles ago. He also did the brakes and clutch. Car should run just fine. Battery is dead though and I'll need a new one to fire it up.

I'd like some opinions though. Anyone local to the Pittsburgh, PA area is welcome to give me some advice and even meet up with me to give a few pointers.

Definitely a rough one... but I'm hoping it'll make a good autocross car to beat up on for a while.

not an 85.5....

Its an early model, so 83-85.1, if the PO is trying to tell you its an 85.5 beware what else they are trying to tell you, but then again, for 'next to nothing' maybe it doesn't matter

however, good luck! these cars can definately be rewarding if taken care of.

Yeah sorry... I learned today that it's an 85.1 isntead. The seller is a friend. He's not lying. He was just misinformed and uneducated when it came to which type of 85 it was.

Looks like I might hold off on it. I was thinking it would be a good autocross car. I don't care about the cosmetics... but it still looks like it might need a bit of work.

ppazz1101,

I have a car that I think would be good for autocross that you can use as the main car or parts. It's a 86 944, rebuilt engine with 944 turbo parts, supercharger, s tranny, maf kit, twist wheel, etc...

Let me know if you have any questions or if you are interested.
