Unhappy Washed engine, now temp gauge is nutz.

I washed the engine, which I've done many times before. This time, though... the temp gauge is pegged at maximum temp. I know the engine isn't overheating because, if the gauge were correct, the DME would have killed the engine or I'd hear lots of knocks and pings.

ANY IDEAS?

Dry the engine off with compressed air.

Pay special attention to the temp sensor near the #1 intake runner.

Well, after 100 degree weather, I think what moisture there was has evaporated. Also, I replaced the temp sensor yesterday and it's still nutz. The temp sensor that WAS there was so old, it (quite easily) broke-off in my hand.
