Default Tensioner redesign

The thought has occured to me, why do people replace the whole tensioner and not just the pads? You can replace the pipe seperate of the housing and you can replace the pads...

Does this part fatigue out and die? If it does, would someone consider donating it to me and Ill model it in CAD and see if we cant have a billet piece made or something so that the entire engine comes apart around the damn thing before it does. 425 bucks EVERY TIME you do this job seems ridiculous.

Thoughts anyone? Want to temporarily donate one for a couple weeks to me?

Yes, you can replace the pads, but some people go to the trouble to replace the entire tensioner??? Why is this? Whats the failure mode on the tensioner itself?

What Im saying is that if this part seems to break at 100K miles, I can make one thatll outlast the car for less than 450 (current pelican price)....

To answer your question about why - when I had mine done on my old 90S2, it's because we were all ready in there. The tensioner assembly is not that expensive compared to what happens if it collapses. My pads were completely shot - grooved out to the metal at the edges so I replaced everything while I was in there - chain & tensioner. Cheap insurance.
