Default switching 16v head with an 8v?

I have a feeling I already know the answer but...

Is it possible to fit an 8 valve head onto a 944S block? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but a local junk yard is willing to part with an 8v head for like 30 bucks...My 16v head is cracked, but working, so I'm contemplating this option.

It might run but it might not run well, does anyone know if DMEs are different?

I don't think they are...

The issue that would concern me is whether or not the cooling jacket will line up.

On another note, how much did that engine swap cost you, if you don't mind my asking? Is there another thread about it?

The water jackets are different and don't forget you will nee a cam & cam tower as well,on the 8v the cams are not in the head like the 16 v.

You are wrong. 8V head fits directly to 944S block. Only 1989 2,7 L head will not fit, because it has similar water jackets what 104mm bore 944 S2 block have. All other 1982-1988 8V heads are direct bolt on. You also need a DME box from 1985½ or newer 2,5L model.

yeh all2.5's have the same gasket profile .so you would need single cam ECU or try mount the cam sensor on a single cam engine either way single cam is a bit of a stup backwards unless your thinking turbo .
but if that is were you at i would sujjest posting on the turbo forum try swap your head and manifold for turbo head and manifold's as there are peope with surplus turbo stuff and there has been talk of tiwn cam conversions .

S2 guys pay good price of your exhaust cam, because it gives some additional hp when installed to S2 head.

True, we've done a number of these conversions and the S2 engine revs better and performs better at high rpms.

Plus the 944S exhaust cam is an excellent core for grinding a hi-perf cam.

Don't sell under $400 a piece.

You can't just transplant the S DME, with a 8V DME. The S uses a 60-1 toothed wheel on the flywheel and the 8V uses the starter ring gear with 130 teeth for the toothed wheel.

Auto Atlanta rebuilds 944S heads. A crack is no problem.

I live in Auburn, AL, so that sounds pretty good. Do you know how expensive something like this would be?
