944 vs. 951 opinions please
I am interested in a 944 or 951 for track use only. Should I be getting a 944NA or Turbo? Why? Witch would have better endurance? Why?
I'm sure my questions will result in more questions but I need to start somewhere.
Thanks

My rule of thumb with (stockish) turbos is that you double the maintenance costs compared to an NA. 944 Turbos will go a lot faster for not a lot more initial cost, but they are more likely to cost more to keep running especially if you add more boost and bolt-ons. A 944 S2 would be my choice as they come with 208hp, the turbo chassis, brakes and suspension but the S2 has more linear power, fewer headaches, and is a lot easier to work on.

I'm very happy with my S2, although it's fresh and only been on the track once this year I can already see why it will make me a better driver; IE the lack of the turbo to make up time on my mistakes.
Not knocking the turbo’s or their drivers, some can out drive with or with out that boost, it's just a different car. Coming out of a faster 911, I still think I made the right choice. Build out and maintenance costs where also a big plus.

Somewhat depends on your goals, your budget, personality, etc.
If your goal is to be super fast, challenge Vipers, etc, the 951 has much more potential.
If I had a high budget, I'd probably have a 951 (or 911, or z06) track car.
Personality - I'm somewhat lazy when it comes to working on the car (I frequently have a shop do things that I COULD do), and the NA will usually be lower maintenance - especially if the turbo is modified. Also, the NA forces me to focus more on driving and not be a boost-aholic.
I've had an S2 (which I never should have sold) and I have to agree that it, or maybe a 968, would be a great choice. For me, it's the perfect low maintenance (well, relatively low) maintenance, low cost track car. But I did wind up with a GREAT 944 NA track car (see details in my sig).
Just my $.02
