Default Jetta Door Handles?

Has anyone tried to put Jetta Mk2 door handles on a porsche? The door handles fit, and look cool, however the mechanism which opens the door is very different and causing some troubles.

Everybody over at the VWvortex forums talks about how great it is to upgrade to 944 door handles, the general consensus seem to be that it's a great upgrade over the vw's. I'd stick w/ Porsche handles.

Default search for an earlier thread

A few months ago there was a thread about this. I believe there is a company mentioned in that thread that converts the VW handles to work with the P car linkages.

The VW units fail. The lever in the handle is potmetal and failure is very common.

The 944 looks exactly the same as a VW handle externally. Judging from the wear on my mine, they're 20 year old originals. So there's something different.

Default not the same handles

I'm not familiar with which version of the Jetta conradmc was talking about, but assumed that it must the one of the much newer models. The handles on the newer models have a much updated look over the "old" style door handles that are found on both the 944 and the older VW's.

The thread I mentioned discussed the newer, more modern style door handles.

Default I stand corrected

I found some links showing that the door handles mentioned by conrad on the mk2 jetta ARE the older style, like what is stock on the 944 line.

Here's a link showing the style of the handle that was discussed in that other thread on this list:

Default can you tell I'm bored

I went out and found a couple of threads that discuss both the old and new....

Here's a stock looking solution that is an improvement:

and a more modern looking solution ---

Scroll down until you see the door handles:
