early 944na fuel rail
Been told that the very early 944 fuel rail is not available. The PET shows 2 part numbers with applicablility up to 43E00229 for part 94411008004, and part 94411008007 after 43E00230. PET also references M44.02 and M44.04.
1) What does the M44.02 vs M44.04 distinction?
2) To what does the 43E00229 and ...203 refer? Engine serial numbers?
3) Can these be correlated to a year or approximate build date?
4) What is the difference in the rails? I am aware of the other part numbers that change along with the rails applicability; but some general explanation of what exactly was changed will be appreciated.
5) Assuming the early rail is not available; what is involved in fitting the later rail? The PET and repair manuals do not appear to illustrate the differences.
Thanks
John

I'm assuming this is the difference that I have had trouble with. From what I have seen there are 3 different rails. The first two look very similar and the third generation fuel rail relocated the regulator, etc to one side facing each other (I think). The rail on my 8/82 944 must be rare because I could not find another like it when it started leaking. I took a rail from an '84 parts car and fitted to my car by cutting the end of the fuel line off of the '84 and hooking it to mine with high-pressure fittings. The difference is in how the fuel lines mate with the rail. On one the high pressure line comes out of one of the regulators and on the other it comes straight out of the back of the rail.
