S2 Cabrio 3rd Stop Lamp
I needed to replace some bulbs in the 3rd brake light on my 1990 S2 Cabriolet, so while I was at the auto parts store today I looked them up. I knew that the 3rd brake light fitted to the cabriolet is the same part as an early 90's Corvette convertible, and found the bulb application for that car. $11 each, and there are four in the lamp assembly. Ow. I recalled that some outdoor lighting used a similar lamp, so I swung by Home Depot and found 12v 10w halogen bi-pin bulbs from Malibu (part number ML10WH2C) for $5.99 a pair. A $30 savings, not bad. I got two pairs of the Malibus and changed all four stop lamp bulbs. They work great and appear to the be same part as the auto store catalog suggested.
I had considered putting in LED's but this was easier. They make a 20 watt version (also for outdoor lighting) also but I do not know if the housing and wiring will take 80 watts total. IIRC the store guide suggested an 891 bulb, which is 11 watts.
