944 S2 Running problems
Hi All,
I have a 1990 UK spec 944 S2. I have a problem whereby the engine just dies while driving along. When this happens I pull over and take it out of gear and take my foot of the gas. Sometimes the engine will die completely, but will restart and sometimes its sits at around 800 rpm and runs unevenly. When you try to rev, it goes up to about 2000 rpm, but won't go any higher, behaving as if someone were removing the high tension lead or some other ignition component. If you keep pumping the gas pedal it will eventually creep past 2000 rpm and all of a sudden will rev freely and I can engage a gear and drive away without a problem untill it happens again. I've looked for some sort of common ground as to when this happens and the only thing I've noticed is it tends to behave like this moreso when the weather is hot. It also behaves like this wether the engine is hot or stone cold.
I posted here a couple of weeks ago and someone suggested the DME relay. I changed the relay and thought I had cured the problem, then the next day it happened again.
Any help would be much appreciated.

you need to start from scratch, check "all" the usuall suspects first
when was it last serviced ?
plugs plug condistions, air filter, dizzy, HT leads, all fuses and relays in and contact clean ?
