'87 944 A/T failed nox emissions
My 1987 944 A/T failed nox emissions in new york state emissions what could cause this. I run sunoco 93 and tried chevron techron what could be the cause and solution??

NoX is Nitrides of Oxygen. Excessive Nox is caused by low combustion temperatures. The catalyst is supposed to help reduce the Nox in the exhaust gases. Check the distributor cap/rotor, spark plugs, coil. If those are good/recently replaced, and the spark plugs are the correct heat range. Then you may have a problem with the cat.
