944 na stock flywheel specs?
Hey everyone, I'm in the middle of a clutch job for my early '85 944 na. I have done a clutch job once before on my mom's '84 944 so I'm getting through it fairly quickly and smoothly. When i did the first job I had the flywheel resurfaced. Now I want to do the same for my car, but the machine shop said my flywheel is too thin to resurface.
With the flywheel out on the bench, I put a flywheel bolt in place, then I put the clutch disc on the flywheel, and I pushed the bolt out from behind to see how far it would go before hitting the disc. It went about 3mm. Then i measured the height of the contact surface to the inner surface where the bolts go through, and the height was about 4.5mm.
My question is: what is the minimum thickness for a 944 flywheel before it has to be replaced?... can I use this flywheel anymore or do I need a new/used one? What's the average rate of wear on a flywheel?
Thanks to all.
