Default Engine difference 84 - 85+

I'm looking to replace the block in my 944 Turbo and am considering using a 944 NA block and crank as these are the same blocks as the Turbo. I saw somewhere that a person was recommending using a 85.5+ block for my purposes. Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in block and crank between 84 and 85.5?

Thanks
Scott

I use an 84 block mounted with 87 head and 87 fuel injection in an 84 chassis.

No issues.

The only difference I'm aware of is the hole for the temp sensor for the gauge on the dash. The later one is bigger, if you have an early block you can drill and tap it for the later sensor.

IIRC if you keep the early sensor you only give up the temp idiot light.
