I really don't think my non-turbo 944 is "slow". Have you ever driven one in the twisties? On the highway? They aren't the fastest off the line, but once they are moving along, there is plenty of speed there to get you in trouble. You should go for a ride in one with a good driver.

If you do want a fast car off the line, under 5K, a 928 would be nice. Depending on your area of the country, that money may get you a basketcase car. You'll have to be careful in your search.

I hate to say it, but for what you want, and the price range, I will second the suggestion for a mustang or camaro from the early 90's.

928's are not fast off the line either.

I drove my parents 91 928 S4. Even with 316 hp it was not fast off the line. Great car, but its weight 3600lbs and auto tranny hampered intial get-up and go. My stock Turbo S felt faster. Then again that 928 really got nice at about 100MPH. Really came into its own then.

If you want stop light drags go get an american car.

I have a 2002 Camaro Limited Edition car with an LS1 stroked to 383ci and it rocks of the line, but...... I have to say that driving a 944 n/a is more fun. Haven't driven a turbo but can imagine it would be great as well. With either a 944 or 951 you can't go wrong!
