Black Oil, it's not Texas Tea
My nephew is the owner of a 944- 86 He has just replaced the water pump and timing belt. Now when he starts the car, the oil pressure is very low and black in color. Any ideas thoughts or suggestions...
Thanks for any advise in advance.

The crank pulley bolt probably isn't tight enough. Check the specs. The torque is pretty high on that bolt. Or, he missed a washer or spacer when reassembling the crank pulley. If the oil pressure is low only at idle it could also be a clogged up oil pressure relief valve (screws into oil filter housing).

That thing is suppose to be somthing like 150 ft/lbs or something insane like that. You say the oil is very black.....Drain 2 quarts of oil, add 2 quarts of ATF. Run the car for a few days. Change the oil and filter. The atf acts as a detergent and will clean out the engine.
